Well said. Interesting that he didn’t say it is a less truthful world with today’s journalism, although I sometimes wonder if it isn’t. There certainly needs to be more discriminatory reading/viewing than ever before, hence, the rightful burden of teaching this skill to our students.
This discussion of “truth” seems to keep coming up this summer. I will again propose here what I proposed on the discussion boards in Dr. Levy’s class. We need a new word (or maybe several new ones) to express the idea of “raw truth” or “rude truth” or “emotional truth” which isn’t really the “truth” that the dictionary defines.
There are instances where something is true or false- and it is that simple. Truth is a good word to use for that. There are of course, many times where my truth will be different from your truth. That is where we need another word.
If Shakespeare added new words to the dictionary, so can we.
